3 Tennessee governor debate at MTSU ahead of Election Day WSMV
Three gubernatorial candidates faced off in a live debate at Middle Tennessee State University, without Republican Marsha Blackburn on Tuesday night. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Press Association and Middle Tennessee State University hosted a forum for candidates in the Tennessee governor’s race Tuesday night. The event began at 7 p.m. from MTSU in Murfreesboro. Democratic nominee Jerri Green and independent candidates David Hatley and Lauren Pinkston previously said they planned to participate. Republican nominee Marsha Blackburn was also invited, but will not be participating. Instead, Blackburn hosted an event in Hendersonville on Tuesday rallying support for her and other Republicans on the ballot for Tennessee.
After her event, she answered questions from media outlets. When asked why she decided to not attend the debate with the other three top polling candidates, she said, “We have met people where they are. We have had dozens of meetings with people all across the state. We have knocked on a million doors. We have done tens of thousands of phone calls, and as you can see, we had a room-full here tonight.”
