Crews are gearing up for the second extended weekend closure on eastbound I-70, the Colorado Department of Transportation said in a Monday news release. The closure follows the completion of bridge deck repairs on westbound Interstate 70 at Kipling Street, which were completed ahead of schedule, the release said. Westbound I-70 reopened around 1 a.m. Monday, followed by Kipling Street around 4 a.m. The closure was originally scheduled to last through Tuesday, according to a release. The 83-hour eastbound I-70 closure at Kipling Street, which will allow crews to work on bridge deck repairs, concrete work, paving and striping, will be in effect from 7 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m.

Tuesday. Traffic will be routed through the Kipling Street interchange using the on- and offramps before returning to the interstate during the closure. Drivers will be unable to enter or exit I-70 at Kipling Street for the duration of the closure, and traffic delays of 30 minutes or longer should be expected, the release said. If weather or other unforeseen delays arise that impact construction schedules, work will continue 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6. “Motorists should plan ahead, allow extra time when traveling through the project area or use alternate routes whenever possible,” according to the release.
