DSU leaders highlight national security mission during government visits  SiouxFalls.Business

DSU's newly opened Applied Research Lab is showcasing how the university is activating its expertise to serve South Dakota and the nation. Dakota State University recently welcomed congressional and government leaders for a series of discussions highlighting how the university is applying its expertise to serve South Dakota, the region, and the nation. The visits showcased a vision that connects DSU’s educational mission, applied research, workforce development, and economic development with the nation’s growing cybersecurity and national security needs. On Sept. 1, U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune and members of his staff visited DSU’s Applied Research Lab (ARL) in Sioux Falls for a presentation and tour of the new facility.

On Sept. 3, DSU representatives traveled to Box Elder, S.D., for a presentation with U.S. Sen. John Thune, U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds, Under Secretary of the Army Michael A. Obdahl, and Maj. Gen. Mark Morrell, Adjutant General of the South Dakota National Guard. The presentation, held at VRC Systems, highlighted how DSU’s role in national security begins with education, advances through applied research, and continues through the highly skilled professionals the university prepares for the workforce.
