Apple TV's 'The Savant' gets spring 2027 release date after postponing following Kirk assassination

Apple TV’s “The Savant” has a release date after it was postponed in September 2025, shortly after Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was killed while speaking at a college campus event that same month.

The show will be released in the spring of 2027, as reported by Deadline and Variety. A source confirmed the release timing to Fox News Digital. 

“The Savant” was set to premiere in September 2025 and followed an undercover investigator, played by Jessica Chastain, as she “infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to stop domestic extremists before they act,” according to the show’s synopsis.

“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone ‘The Savant,’” an AppleTV statement from 2025 said at the time. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”

At the time, Apple TV did not provide details of its decision. However, the show would have premiered two weeks after Kirk was shot and killed in what authorities described as an ideologically motivated attack.

Kirk’s alleged assassin was reported to have had a “leftist ideology” and harbored hatred against Kirk specifically.

Pradeep, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, author and expert in neuroscience, consumer psychology, AI and marketing, spoke about what companies may consider in making the decision to delay a show release or a statement to Fox News Digital, comparing the thought process to that of politicians, who he said do the opposite of what corporations might do. 

Pradeep said successful politicians tend to trigger a fight-or-flight response within the limbic system of the voter.

“Corporations, unlike politicians, generally shy away from anything that triggers limbic responses. They never want to be caught in an Amygdala struggle, and try to position themselves as far from such struggles as possible.”

“Apple’s decision is clear, and actually makes sense. Anything that can trigger a limbic system response is the last thing Apple would want to be associated with,” he said. “Apple wants to be associated with Consumer Desire, and not Consumer Limbic responses. This is the real reason for the decision.”

Chastain, an executive producer of “The Savant” as well as a star in it, spoke out against the decision to postpone in a Sept. 24, 2025, post to social media. She said she did not align with the decision.

“In the last five years since we’ve been making the show, we’ve seen an unfortunate amount of violence in the United States: the kidnapping attempt on Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer; the January 6th attack on the Capitol; the assassination attempts on President Trump; the political assassinations of Democratic representatives in Minnesota; the attack on Speaker Pelosi’s husband; the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk; the recent shooting at an ABC affiliate station in California; and over 300 school shootings across this country,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “These incidents, though far from encompassing the full range of violence witnessed in the United States, illustrate a broader mindset that crosses the political spectrum and must be confronted. I’ve never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn’t so relevant, unfortunately it is.”

Her post continued, “‘The Savant’ is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever.”

“While I respect Apple’s decision to pause the release for now, I remain hopeful the show will reach audiences soon. Until then, I’m wishing safety and strength for everyone, and I’ll let you know if and when ‘The Savant’ is released,” she added at the time.

The actress and producer told Variety in April that the show would get a release date. On the show’s page on AppleTV’s website, the show’s release date reads, “Coming soon.”
