Craven County officials celebrated the opening of an expanded community health clinic Monday, bringing essential medical, pharmacy, and behavioral health care closer to home for eastern county residents. (WITN) — A new community community health center expansion is bringing essential medical, pharmacy, and behavioral health care closer to home for Craven County residents. The Craven County Health Department hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Craven County Community Health Center’s 2,000-square-foot expansion Monday morning. The upgraded facility, located at 508 U.S. Highway 70 in Havelock, features new examination rooms, a full in-house pharmacy, and dedicated space for a Veterans Affairs Behavioral Health Clinic staffed by two providers.

County leaders say the expansion aims to eliminate long commutes for residents who previously had to travel to New Bern for comprehensive care. “Havelock’s kind of the center of our population in the eastern part of the county,” Craven County Commissioners Chairman Denny Bucher says. “So, we have a great amount of veterans here, number one. And then our county goes quite some distance before you get to Carteret. Those people were having to travel all the way to New Bern. That’s why Havelock became, I think, the secondary location.” Craven County Health Director Scott Harrelson
