A Weather Authority Alert Day has been issued for Tuesday, July 21st for the risk of strong storms throughout the region. After an active evening, we start this morning off with more showers throughout the region. Several tornado warned storms occured last night, including in Nelson, Amherst, Rockbridge, and Greenbrier counties. All of these storms were warned via radar indication, meaning it has yet to be confirmed if there was indeed a touchdown; to confirm, the National Weather Service will have to survey the land which will likely occur this afternoon. As for today, there is still loads of energy in the atmosphere that is available to form storms. The cold front we dealt with yesterday, is still producing storms.

It has since stalled out and is developing showers in a linear formation directly along the front. Over the next couple hours, the front will shift southward, impacting the counties boardering North Carolina. We are expecting the same impacts as yesterday: strong winds, heavy rain, and a slight chance of some hail (looking less likely than yesterday). The tornado threat is still there, but is minimal. This time around, the threat is further south encompassing Halifax, Pittsylvania, Charlotte as well as portions of Henry, Appomattox, & Campbell counties.
