New York is expanding a network of peer-led mental health programs for teenagers and young adults, including locations in Ontario, Tompkins and Wayne counties. The state Office of Mental Health announced the opening of New York’s first state-funded Youth Safe Space at the LaSalle School campus in Albany. Six additional locations are planned across the state.

Youth Safe Spaces offer non-clinical services for people ages 12 to 24. The programs are designed to reduce isolation, help young people develop positive relationships, and connect participants with traditional and non-traditional support. The Partnership for Ontario County will receive $250,000 annually for five years to expand services at the EPIC Zone Youth Recovery Clubhouse at 81 North Street in Geneva. St. John’s Community Services will receive $500,000 annually for five years to establish a new Youth Safe Space in Tompkins County.
