SAN ANTONIO – With another round of heavy rain headed toward San Antonio, San Antonio Fire Department data on a decade of high-water rescues shows crews are called to the same low-water crossings again and again. The crossing at the top of that list is Old Seguin Road at Salado Creek. SAFD has responded to 46 high-water rescues there since 2015, more than any other spot on its list. The second-worst location is Old O’Connor Road, just north of Lookout on the Northeast Side, with 31 high-water rescues since 2015.
On the Northwest Side, Hollyhock Road about 600 feet west of Babcock has had 20 high-water rescues. On the West Side, Pinn Road just south of West Commerce has had 14 high-water rescues since 2015. When the water gets high enough, crews will shut down the entire road. SAFD said six inches of moving water can knock a person off their feet, and about 12 inches can sweep a vehicle away. Downtown, San Pedro Creek is not on SAFD’s top 10 list, but two people were swept away in the creek during the Aug. 28 storms. One
