Dear Veteran,We are writing to inform you of important changes to the property tax exemption for certain disabled veterans that was originally enacted in 2024 (PA 24-46).Recent legislation provided mu We are writing to inform you of important changes to the property tax exemption for certain disabled veterans that was originally enacted in 2024 (PA 24-46). Recent legislation provided municipalities with several local options that could be adopted to expand or modify the exemption in PA 25-168. Over the past few months, the Board of Selectmen carefully reviewed and discussed these options before making its decision. Following those discussions, the Board voted to adopt the following local options.

These changes will take effect beginning with the October 1, 2026 Grand List and will be reflected in the tax bills issued in July, 2027: TDIU EligibilityVeterans who have been granted Total Disability based on Individual Unemployability (TDIU) by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for a service-connected disability may now qualify for this exemption. Surviving Spouse EligibilityA surviving spouse may now qualify if their veteran spouse was determined by the VA to be either 100% Permanent and Total for a service-connected disability or TDIU for a service-connected disability. The Town's adoption extends eligibility to qualifying surviving spouses whose veteran spouse died after January 1, 1970. This may also apply when
