Incoming Killeen City Manager Marie Peoples will start the job on Nov. 9 The Killeen City Council approved Marie Peoples as the new city manager in a 6-1 vote Thursday, with Councilwoman Mellisa Brown voting against. The position is effective Nov. 9. Brown said she voted against Peoples’ hire because of the terms of the contract, saying that outgoing Interim City Manager Kent Cagle did not come in with most of those benefits. According to the contract, Peoples will receive an annual salary of $260,000, an annual automobile allowance of $7,200, a contribution to an eligible 457 plan of $15,000, relocation assistance of $15,000, and interim housing assistance of $3,500 per month for up to three months, according to city documents.

Construction is beginning on a $160 million Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic in Copperas Cove, a project officials say will bring a wide range of health care services closer to Central Texas veterans. The facility is planned to include more than 250,000 square feet of space.
