Israel’s Ari Arms Inaugurates M4 Rifle Plant in Azerbaijan Israel Defense
Israeli company Ari Arms inaugurated its rifle manufacturing plant in Azerbaijan last week in the presence of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva. The high-profile opening ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Ari Arms owners Avihai Stolero, Ravid Ankonina, and Oren Ankonina. The Israeli firm will manufacture M4 rifles in a joint venture with the local government, reflecting a global trend toward domestic arms production and reduced reliance on foreign suppliers. According to a report in Globes, the move in Azerbaijan illustrates a prominent trend in the global defense market and the small arms sector in particular: growing demand for local production lines to minimize reliance on external procurement.
The expanded and modernized facility, owned by the Azerbaijani government, will be the country's first to manufacture advanced Western M4 rifles, having previously produced only Kalashnikov rifles. Rifle production is carried out through a joint venture between Ari Arms, the local Iqlim Scientific Production Enterprise, and Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense Industry, led by Minister Vugar Mustafayev. In line with this strategic policy, and following deals established with countries such as Albania and the Philippines, Ari Arms is negotiating additional contracts that may incorporate domestic production components. Operating in the local market for over 20 years, Ari Arms specializes in developing and manufacturing advanced small arms systems.
