More than 3 million veterans disability claims processed in 2026, VA says

The VA processed 3,111,399 disability claims, topping its prior record of 3,000,734 claims set in fiscal year 2025. The VA reported that it set a new record in fiscal year 2026 for processing disability claims for monthly compensation. (Stars and Stripes) WASHINGTON — The Department of Veterans Affairs continues to break records for processing disability claims, reporting that 3.1 million requests were processed in fiscal year 2026. The VA has awarded more than $207 billion in disability compensation and pension benefits to veterans and their survivors in 2026, the agency said. Approximately 60% of disability claims were approved. About 3% of denials were appealed. The faster processing times have reduced the backlog of claims awaiting decisions, the agency said.
The VA also has enrolled more than 300,000 veterans in its health care network in 2026, the agency said. It opened more than 40 new clinics since January 2025 to keep up with the growing demand for health care. The new facilities are walk-in clinics that make treatment easier and more convenient for veterans. The VA has started offering appointments outside of standard operating hours at some of its locations, including in the evening and on weekends. More than 9 million veterans are now enrolled in VA health care. Veterans who enrolled in VA health care in 2026 completed or scheduled
