A southwest neighborhood will receive millions to improve its quality of life Fort Worth Report
Wedgwood East will receive a $4.3 million capital investment to improve quality and revitalize the neighborhood. The city of Fort Worth has chosen the Wedgwood East neighborhood for a $4.3 million revitalization aimed at improving quality of life and safety. The community in southwest Fort Worth is the city’s choice for its Neighborhood Improvement Program recipient for 2027, the city announced Tuesday during a city council work session. The neighborhood is bounded on the north by Interstate 20, south by Altamesa Boulevard, east by Westcreek Drive and McCart Avenue, and west by Woodway Drive. It has over 1,300 households, a median income of $65,625, lower than the city’s median of $82,503, and a higher poverty rate at 18% than the city average of 13%, according to the city.
The city’s investment will be over three years. Residents will have a say in what is implemented, but typically the city’s projects include streetlight and street upgrades, public safety cameras and cleanup of illegal dumping, with some neighborhoods investing in installing cameras to deter it. “I think the general feeling is excitement,” Shana Hazzard, treasurer for the Wedgwood East Neighborhood Association, said about the investment. “I think that it’s really necessary and honestly, I think we need it.” ✨ Getting the full story takes timeIt also takes all of us.
