The event combined fitness with community solidarity as participants donned pink attire to support survivors, honor those lost, and promote proactive healthcare. Among the participants was Debora Lomi, a library technician and breast cancer survivor, who shared her personal experience with early detection. "I can't stress enough the importance of prevention," Lomi told the crowd, recounting how a mammogram caught an aggressive form of cancer after an initial ultrasound showed negative findings.
Now in its fourth year, the tradition has endured despite the constant rotation of military families passing through the installation. Organizers emphasized that the walk serves as a vital reminder that physical, mental, and emotional well-being remain central to the military community's readiness and resilience. "I believe this event continues to grow because it represents something much bigger than just a run or walk," said Sgt. Maj. Santos Lainez, the 839th Transportation Battalion sergeant major. "It brings awareness to a disease that has touched so many lives, including members of our own Camp Darby community."
