Early voting wraps in Georgia with record 2.8M+ ballots | What happens next Atlanta News First
As early voting wraps up in the Peach State, more than 2.7 million ballots have been cast in Georgia’s nationally watched 2026 midterm elections. ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — With early voting wrapped up in the Peach State, more than 2.8 million ballots have been cast in Georgia’s nationally watched 2026 midterm elections. As of 9:30 p.m. Friday, a total of 2,691,841 million early, in-person ballots had been cast, setting a new record. On Thursday, Georgia broke the previous record for early in-person voting set in the 2022 midterm elections, which was nearly 2.3 million votes. Overall early turnout, including 118,329 absentee ballots, was 2,810,170, eclipsing the state’s previous record for overall midterm early turnout—a total of 2.5 million votes recorded four years ago.
The turnout amounts to roughly 37.3% of registered voters, according to the secretary of state’s office. Now that early voting locations have closed Friday evening, voters who haven’t cast a ballot must wait until Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3, when voting is restricted to assigned neighborhood precincts. Georgia law requires voters to present a valid government-issued photo ID at check-in. You can visit the state’s official voter portal at mvp.sos.ga.gov to check your voter registration status. For voters who still have an absentee ballot at home, election officials warn it is now too late
