SF: Man Faces Sentencing After Conviction In Macy’s Theft Case SFGATE
A 51-year-old San Francisco man has been convicted of felony resisting an executive officer, attempted petty theft and contempt of court after a jury trial stemming from an incident at Macy's on May 16, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Joel Lewis Robinson was found guilty after violently resisting a San Francisco police officer attempting to detain him while he was allegedly violating a court-ordered stay-away order from the department store, prosecutors said. Prosecutors said Robinson was ordered on April 28 to stay away from Macy's. On May 16, store asset protection personnel reportedly saw him concealing jewelry on surveillance video and alerted store employees and police, according to prosecutors.
When officers arrived, Robinson refused to comply and forcefully resisted detention, authorities said. Police recovered two boxes of jewelry from his jacket pockets following his arrest, a press release issued by the SFDA's office noted. Robinson is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 17, 2026.
