Shorter days no match for these SF events San Francisco Examiner
The days are shorter, but San Francisco is still hosting a Union Square ice skating rink, family-friendly San Francisco Ballet performances and a Day of the Dead celebration featuring the San Francisco Symphony. One less hour of sunlight isn’t affecting San Francisco’s social calendar. Here are some of the top events to check out this week in The City. Marigold Project, an artist-led organization, will fill Potrero del Sol Park for the 34th time with a pop-up marketplace, musical performances, special exhibitors and dozens of altars commemorating loved ones who have died. This year’s “Between Roots and Heaven” theme will reflect how cultures and personal identities help them evolve in life, organizers said.
The admission-free event will run from 4 to 10 p.m., with guests invited to make their own altars beginning at 10 a.m. The park is located at 2827 Chavez St. San Francisco Opera will stage a production of Mozart’s comic opera, which over four acts follows the characters Figaro and Susanna, who attempt to get married but are sabotaged by their boss, Count Almaviva. The show will feature a set designed by Erhard Roms and the podium debut of conductor Sebastian Weigle. Tickets are available online and range from $36 to $443. The performance will be broadcasted on high-definition video screens to patrons sitting in War Memorial
