South Korean police suspect 2 US soldiers of smuggling drugs through military mail

Two U.S. soldiers assigned to Camp Humphreys were arrested in South Korea on suspicion of smuggling liquid cannabis through military mail. South Korean customs officers intercepted a package sent through U.S. military mail allegedly containing liquid cannabis vials concealed inside a powdered protein container. (Pyeongtaek Customs Office) South Korean customs officers arrested two U.S. soldiers on suspicion of smuggling liquid cannabis onto Camp Humphreys through the Military Postal Service, according to a recent news release. The soldiers concealed 30 small vials of liquid cannabis, weighing 6.3 ounces in total, inside a powdered protein container and mailed them to Camp Humphreys, the Pyeongtaek Customs Office announced Wednesday. The soldiers were not identified by South Korean authorities, but Eighth Army spokesman Choi Jung-won confirmed by email Friday that they are assigned to the command.

“Eighth Army takes all allegations of misconduct seriously,” Choi said. He declined further comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
