The first wave of light showers moved in around midday Wednesday. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Charlotte has gotten just under a half-inch of rain since early Wednesday, snapping three weeks of dry weather. Foothill and mountain communities have seen heavier rain, in spots over two inches so far. Rain chances will continue Thursday night into Friday, before the forecast dries out in time for the weekend. Once Thursday morning’s rain moved away, some breaks in the cloud cover allowed temperatures to warm into the mid to upper 70s. While the timing and overall setup do not favor a significant severe weather threat, the First Alert Weather team will keep an eye on the latest trends. The most-likely range of additional rainfall totals is a tenth of an inch to a quarter-inch, with closer to a half-inch in the Sandhills. Once the rain moves out, cooler air will settle in for the weekend. Highs Saturday and Sunday will reach the mid-to-upper 60s, with overnight lows mostly in the 40s. Dry weather will continue into the first half of next week. Temperatures will be slightly above-average,
