Photos from a missing-person flyer for Alaska Army National Guard Spc. Saria Hildabrand circulated in Anchorage in August 2023. Her husband, Zarrius Hildabrand, was convicted of second-degree murder in her death and given a 59-year prison sentence. (Justice for Saria Facebook page) A former soldier was sentenced to nearly 60 years in prison for killing his wife, an Alaska Army National Guard member, and hiding her body in a storm drain near their Anchorage apartment. Zarrius Hildabrand, 24, was sentenced last month after being convicted of second-degree murder and two counts of evidence tampering in the 2023 death of Spc.

Saria Hildabrand, 21. Both were serving in the military at the time of the killing. The couple had been celebrating his 21st birthday with friends before returning home, where Saria Hildabrand apparently discovered messages on her husband’s phone indicating he had been unfaithful, according to a statement from the Alaska Department of Law. Prosecutors said Hildabrand then shot his wife in the head with a 9mm handgun and concealed her body in a nearby storm drain, pouring gasoline over it. He then reported his wife missing and helped her family, military personnel and police search for her. Her body was recovered
