SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT: A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for... * The Gulf Coast from Morgan City, Louisiana, to Sargent, Texas A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, in this case within 24 hours. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 100 PM CDT (1800 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Bertha was located near latitude 29.9 North, longitude 93.8 West. Bertha is moving toward the west near 10 mph (17 km/h), and this motion with some increase in forward speed is expected during the next day or so. On the forecast track, the center of Bertha will move across portions of eastern Texas during the next several hours. Maximum sustained winds remain near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Bertha is expected to gradually weaken, and it is forecast to dissipate in a day or so. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 160 miles (260 km) south of the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1004 mb (29.65 inches). WIND: Tropical storm conditions will continue spreading across portions of the Louisiana and Texas coasts within the warning area into the evening. STORM SURGE: The combination of storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the immediate coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. The water could reach the following heights above ground somewhere in the indicated areas if the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide... Port Bolivar, TX to Port Fourchon, LA...1-2 ft The deepest water will occur along the immediate coast. Surge-related flooding depends on the relative timing of the surge and the tidal cycle, and can vary greatly over short distances.
