Triad veterans bring in almost $110K in retroactive benefits thanks to Veterans Affairs event  WXII

Some Triad veterans are discovering they're owed tens of thousands of dollars in benefits, and it's all thanks to an event connecting them to the support services they have earned. The Veterans Benefits Live and Homeless Veterans Stand Down is a one-stop shop for men and women who served to work directly with the VA and get the benefits assistance they may need. Get the latest news stories of interest by clicking here Tanya Santos, the public affairs officer for the Winston-Salem Veterans Affairs Regional Office, said they served more than 230 veterans over the two-day period. "The purpose really is to bring the VA to where the veterans are," she said.

"Our team is here providing claims assistance, answering claims, filing claims for VA benefits. We have our VA healthcare team doing enrollments and toxic exposure screenings." For veterans experiencing homelessness, volunteers gave out haircuts, toiletry kits, clothing and more, while also connecting folks to job and housing services. Santos said this event makes a huge difference for those who may need it, paying almost $110,000 in retroactive benefits.
