First Alert Weather Day continues on Monday due to severe weather potential  WSAW

A couple of rounds of severe storms possible Sunday night WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The First Alert Weather Day continues through most of Monday due to two rounds of potential severe weather during the day; one of these rounds will be more conditional than the other. Severe storms are expected to impact the region early Monday morning. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for counties in the Northwoods until 9 AM Monday morning. However, we are dealing with some capping in the atmosphere on the morning commute. There is a layer of warmer air higher in the atmosphere preventing storms from becoming more scattered; this cap acts just like a lid on a boiling pot of water, preventing steam from getting out of the pot just like the warmer air prevents updrafts from forming storms.

Once this cap either breaks or erodes, the main threats with any potential strong to severe storms are damaging winds, large hail, downpours, and a brief, isolated tornado.
