Rubio packs NYC schedule with markets, allies and critical minerals talks  WSBT

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is spending a busy day in New York City on Monday, beginning with a visit to the New York Stock Exchange and continuing with a series of high-level meetings focused on diplomacy, security and economic cooperation. Rubio rang the Opening Bell at the NYSE before his scheduled meetings with foreign leaders from Latin America, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Among his first meetings were Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz, followed by a trilateral discussion with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Cho Hyun. Rubio will also meet with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. The two nations are set to participate in a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding on critical minerals, an agreement that comes as the United States and its allies seek to strengthen access to materials vital for advanced technology, energy production and national security.

The secretary will later meet with representatives from seven NATO countries with Arctic territories or strategic interests: the United States, Canada, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden and Finland. The gathering intends to place a renewed focus on cooperation in the Arctic, where competition over security, shipping routes and natural resources has intensified. Rubio’s schedule also included meetings with Kenyan President William Ruto and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.
