The crews were dispatched to an apartment complex just after 2 a.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of West Bitters Road. Investigators said a driver in a white SUV was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when they hit a curb, went airborne, crashed through a fence and knocked down multiple parking structures. The vehicle then rolled over and burst into flames. Police said the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, at least one parked vehicle was also damaged in the crash. However, at this time, no other injuries have been reported. On Thursday, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the driver as Edward Gillette, 23.
