Judge denies bond for man accused of shooting CMPD officer  Spectrum News

A judge denied bond for Dionte McCracking, who is accused of shooting a CMPD officer while police responded to a suspicious car call. CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A judge denied bond Thursday for the man accused of shooting a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer. Dionte McCracking is charged with attempted first-degree murder and other offenses. Police said the officer was shot while responding to a suspicious car call overnight Wednesday. Police later said the car was reported stolen. McCracking was arrested after an hours-long standoff at an apartment. During Thursday’s court appearance, a judge reviewed McCracking’s criminal history, which dates back to 2013. Court records show McCracking has faced a range of charges between 2013 and 2026, including breaking and entering, larceny and firearm offenses.

CMPD officers also appeared in court Thursday and asked the judge to keep McCracking behind bars. McCracking appeared virtually and showed little visible reaction as the judge denied his bond. The officer was shot in the shoulder, with the bullet nearly striking his neck. He underwent surgery and is expected to recover. McCracking received a $150,000 secured bond on each of his other pending charges. If released on those charges, the court ordered electronic monitoring.
