No. 1 Texas wins first Road Test of Season against Tennessee  KEYE

No. 1 Texas played its first road and SEC game of the season Saturday at Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium. The Longhorns led 10-3 at halftime before Tennessee tied the game in the third quarter. Texas entered the matchup 3-0 after a 30-6 win over UTSA last week. The Longhorns opened the season with victories over Texas State and Ohio State. Saturday marked the fourth meeting between Texas and Tennessee and the first regular-season game between the programs. The first three meetings were played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Tennessee won the first matchup 20-14 in 1951, while Texas won 16-0 in 1953 and 36-13 in 1969. Quarterback Arch Manning entered the game with 661 passing yards, seven touchdown passes and 83 rushing yards through three games.

Running back Hollywood Smothers entered with 203 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Raleek Brown had 129 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Tennessee entered the matchup 3-0 after wins over Furman, Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State. Freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon had accounted for nine total touchdowns through three games, including six passing and three rushing, without an interception in 64 attempts.
