A 21-year-old man with gang affiliations has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting last month in East Austin, the Austin Police Department said. Santana Gonzales was arrested Wednesday on Skycrest Drive in Austin by the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the APD SWAT team, police said. He faces a first-degree murder charge in the Aug. 30 shooting death of 17-year-old Edwin Pulgar. Austin-Travis County EMS provided lifesaving measures, but Pulgar was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:06 p.m. APD homicide detectives and Austin Forensic Science crime scene specialists responded to investigate. Police said their investigation found that Pulgar was driving his own vehicle when he encountered Gonzales, who was on foot, and that Gonzales shot Pulgar while he was inside the vehicle. Police said Gonzales has gang affiliations and is a suspect in other shootings that have occurred over the past month.
