A day after being arrested, a 14-year-old is now charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a Westfield High School shooting, according to an official with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A day after being arrested, a 14-year-old is now charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a Westfield High School student, according to an official with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting happened on Tuesday, shortly after school was dismissed along a sidewalk near Westfield High School and the Spring ISD administration building on Ella Boulevard. The victim was identified by his family as 15-year-old Royce Witchet. Witchet was taken to a hospital in critical condition where he later died.

The suspect, who isn’t being named because of his age, is also believed to be a student in Spring ISD, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Investigators have not released details about what led to the shooting, including whether Witchet and the suspect knew each other. Authorities have asked students and others who witnessed the shooting — or who have video, messages or other information — to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-221-6000.
