Texans are more prone to road rage than most, according to a new analysis. TEXAS — Road rage shootings are on the rise across the country, according to data ranking Texas as the top state and the Houston area as the top metropolitan area for such incidents. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office recently investigated a roadway shooting in Cypress, northwest of Houston, that occurred Sept. 19. Deputies allege that a driver, Jeremy Porter, fired multiple gunshots at a car driven by Monica Hicks, killing her 5-year-old daughter, Zah’Layah Walton. Porter was charged with capital murder. “I asked God why He’d take my baby instead of me,” Hicks said at a balloon release held two days later.
“He took my baby away from me for nothing.” Hicks said she had never seen or interacted with Porter before the shooting. “He acknowledged that he fired gunshots at another vehicle. Whether this was the intended target or not will be something that will have to be sorted out in court,” said Jason Spencer, a spokesperson for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
