Road closures, traffic expected in San Antonio amid President Trump visit today MySA
San Antonio area authorities are warning residents of the potential for heavy traffic on Wednesday, October 7. Amid President Donald Trump's appearance at a mid-term rally at the Freeman Coliseum, road closures will occur without notice. Doors to the venue, located at 3201 E. Houston Street, open at 2:30 p.m. The event begins at 6 p.m., with opening remarks kicking off the evening. Attorney General Ken Paxton and Republican congressional candidate Carlos De La Cruz will also speak, according to The Texas Tribune. A deputy with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) tells MySA that there will be significant law enforcement in the area, and road closures will take place intermittently as needed.
Officials say they can not give specifics on which roads will be closed, nor the exact timing of them. "Commuters are strongly advised to avoid the area due to heavy congestion associated with large events," BCSO said. "Delays should be expected." A spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) told MySA that for security reasons, it also can not disclose information on planned closures or detours. They added that if they occur, they will be momentary and deferred requests for additional information to the Secret Service and the BCSO.
