WASHINGTON — Recently, the Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution led by U.S. Sens. Thom Tillis (R-NC), co-founder and co-chair of the Senate Mental Health Caucus and a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and Angus King (I-ME) designating Sept. 30, 2026, as National Veterans Suicide Prevention Day. The Tillis-King resolution encourages the public, veteran service organizations, community partners, and health care providers to raise awareness of veteran suicide prevention and the resources available to veterans in crisis. “Our veterans have sacrificed everything to defend our freedoms, and we owe them our unwavering commitment to ensure they have access to the care and resources they need during and after their service,” said Tillis.

“I thank my colleagues for their overwhelming bipartisan support in establishing National Veterans Suicide Prevention Day. I am proud to have co-led this effort to raise awareness of veteran suicide, connect veterans with lifesaving resources, and ensure those who served our nation know they are never alone.” Thirty-one other senators joined Tillis and King as cosponsors for this resolution. The bipartisan resolution has been endorsed by the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and Tragedy Assistance Programs for Survivors (TAPS).
