The storm pounded a 200-mile stretch of the Gulf Coast overnight Friday with howling winds and driving rain that drowned beaches, flooded neighborhoods and left dozens of coastal towns with a mess of soggy debris.
At least four deaths were linked to the storm, including two people killed when trees fell onto homes in Florida and Alabama. About 800,000 customers were without power, mostly in Florida and Alabama. Life-threatening storm conditions remained a threat for parts of the Florida Panhandle, along with a potential for 4 to 8 inches of rain.
