Report: Netflix to lay off about 1,000 workers in largest job cuts to date NBC Los Angeles
The layoffs come despite continued revenue and profit growth for the company. Netflix is laying off about 1,000 employees, or roughly 6% of its workforce, in what would be the streaming giant's largest round of job cuts to date, it was reported Wednesday. The layoffs will primarily affect employees in the company's product, technology, legal and human resources departments, according to Variety, which obtained an internal email sent Wednesday morning by Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters. "Our mission — to entertain the world — is ambitious, and delivering on it requires us to be disciplined about where we prioritize our people and resources,'' the executives wrote in the memo.
The company said the reductions are part of organizational changes intended to focus resources on areas considered critical to its growth. "Our business is strong and growing, and we remain on track to deliver our full year forecast,'' Sarandos and Peters wrote. Netflix did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
