La Jolla Couple Accuses Disney And ‘Toy Story’ Actor Of Elder Abuse, Fraud In Lawsuit Patch
The couple claims they lost about $900,000 after investing more than $2 million in gold coins through the former child actor. LA JOLLA, CA — A La Jolla couple has sued former Disney star Erik von Detten, accusing him of financial elder abuse and fraud involving more than $2 million in gold investments. Norman Greenberg, 97, his wife, Sheila Greenberg, 85, filed the lawsuit against von Detten and precious metals company Rosland Capital LLC in Los Angeles County Superior Court in May, according to multiple media reports. The couple claims von Detten persuaded them to invest about $2.1 million of their retirement savings in gold coins after they contacted the company in 2020, KTLA reported Tuesday.
According to the lawsuit, the coins were worth only about $1.3 million. The couple is requesting a jury trial and seeking roughly $900,000 in damages, along with additional punitive damages, KTLA reported. Rosland Capital filed for bankruptcy in July after the lawsuit was filed. Von Detten, 44, is known for his roles in Disney's "The Princess Diaries" and "Brink!" and for voicing Sid in "Toy Story."
