Houston’s Mala Sichuan Bistro files tax paperwork for Cypress location  Houston Chronicle

One of Houston's most beloved Chinese restaurants has filed tax paperwork for a new location in Cypress, but the business is keeping quiet about its plans. A tax permit for a Mala Sichuan Bistro location at the Cyfair Town Center is set to go into effect on Jan. 5, 2027, according to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. The location is the former site of Duck N Bao, which closed this year, according to local news reports. Mala Sichuan is a local favorite with five locations throughout the Houston area, in Chinatown, Montrose, the Heights, Sugar Land and Katy. Owner Cori Xiong declined to comment but gently hinted at the possibility of a new location.

"We'd like to keep silence of the expansion plan until we have a better estimate of opening date," Xiong wrote in a statement. "Building up too much expectations can harm us, and that is not the way I like it." FOOD GUIDE: The best Chinese restaurants in the Houston area An entity named YYDS Group — a company based in Spring Branch — was named as the official taxpayer in the Cypress filing.
