Canada's Bombardier has signed a strategic agreement with British defense giant BAE Systems aimed at next-generation fighter development. Under the… Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier (BBDb.TO) said on the 28th that it has signed a strategic agreement with British defense giant BAE Systems (BA.L) to explore industrial and technological cooperation opportunities tied to next-generation fighter development plans. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and will examine potential collaboration across a broad range of areas, including research and development, systems integration, workforce development, supply chain building, manufacturing capacity, and operations and sustainment support. The framework is non-binding, but it is positioned as part of Canada's push to expand its domestic defense industrial base and deepen aerospace cooperation with allied nations.

The agreement will serve as a foundation for evaluating joint initiatives spanning the design of aircraft and mission systems, advanced manufacturing, and full life-cycle sustainment. The aim is to combine Bombardier's aircraft development capabilities and digital engineering base with BAE's operational experience in complex combat air systems. Simon Barnes, group managing director of BAE's air sector, said the collaboration would help advance the goals set out in Canada's defense industrial strategy and strengthen international defense cooperation. For Bombardier, the move represents an attempt to expand its high-margin defense unit beyond military conversions of business jets into the sovereign defense
