More than 1.5 million North Carolinians have cast ballots in the 2026 general election, says the North Carolina State Board of Elections. By Saturday, Oct. 24, voters had turned in 1,544,673 ballots, Queen City News reported. That total makes up nearly 20% of the state's 7.9 million registered voters. Of those ballots, 1.48 million came in during the in-person early voting period, which continues through 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. The pace is faster than it was at this point in the 2022 general election. Back then, just over 1 million early votes had been cast. Registered Democrats have cast more than 640,000 ballots, compared with nearly 368,000 cast by registered Republicans.

Unaffiliated voters make up more than 40% of the state's registered voters. The state has 3,170,142 registered unaffiliated voters. So far, nearly 820,000 women and more than 640,000 men have voted across North Carolina. In Mecklenburg County, more than 152,000 voters had cast ballots through in-person early voting by Saturday, according to election data.
