CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Voters in North and South Carolina will be electing new U.S. senators for their states in the November 2026 election. WBTV anchor Darrell Green and investigative reporter David Hodges are breaking down the U.S. Senate races in North Carolina and South Carolina. Watch their breakdown in the video player up above. In North Carolina, Democratic nominee and former governor Roy Cooper is running against Republican nominee and former GOP chair Michael Whatley for U.S. Senate. Current Sen. Thom Tillis is not running for reelection in 2026. In South Carolina, current Sen. Darline Graham (R) is running against Democratic nominee Dr. Annie Andrews in the U.S.

Senate race. Darline Graham was appointed to the position earlier this year, following the unexpected death of her brother Sen. Lindsey Graham. She won a primary runoff election in August for the Republican nomination. Election Day for the 2026 midterm general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3 in the Carolinas and nationwide. To help get Carolina residents ready to vote, WBTV has been streaming election explainers each Tuesday in October. The Oct. 27 stream is the final explainer in the series.
