Changes coming to how council is elected after Issues 8, 9 pass in Columbus  WSYX

Columbus voters passed Issues 8 and 9 Tuesday, meaning changes are coming to the way City Council members are determined. Currently, there is one councilperson for each of the city's nine districts, but all voters were able to vote for all districts. Now, with the passage of Issue 8 — it received 82 percent support — voters will only vote for the person they want to represent their district. Issue 9 includes what is described above, but also will add four more at-large councilmembers — two next year and two in 2029 — that all voters in the city would vote for. Issue 9 earned 57 percent support.
