Encinitas election results: Who’s ahead in races for mayor, City Council  inewsource

There are three contested Encinitas City Council races on the ballot. The mayor and an incumbent have challengers. One seat is open. The 2024 election was an overhaul of the City Council. This one was a referendum on it. In what would be a shakeup of the Encinitas City Council, the three candidates endorsed by the San Diego County Democratic Party were leading in the first returns released after the polls closed Tuesday night. Two years ago, Democratic party candidates went 0-3. Then, in updated results released at midnight, the incumbent mayor, an independent, was ahead by 30 votes. Rimga Viskanta was narrowly ahead in a bid to unseat Mayor Bruce Ehlers before he edged ahead.

In District 3, Arielle Golden was slightly ahead of Ed Sprague after the polls closed and again at midnight. In District 4, Brad Lefkowits had a significant lead over Marco San Antonio in both counts. The tally so far consists of about 19,500 ballots cast in the mayor’s race and 5,000 in each council race since early voting began Oct. 5. Tuesday’s votes will continue to be added to the totals to decide who represents the 60,000 residents of Encinitas through 2028. San Diego County voting officials expect to post additional updates Thursday, Friday and Monday evenings and have until Dec. 3 to certify
