The blue wave thoroughly washed through Dallas County on Tuesday night, including in the Texas Senate race. Most political observers expected James Talarico to win the county, generally seen as one of the state’s Democratic strongholds. But he carried it by an even larger margin than previous Democratic Senate candidates, getting over 70% of the vote Tuesday night. The Senate race between Talarico, a state representative from Austin, and Ken Paxton, the attorney general, was one of the most closely watched and expensive races in the country. Talarico’s victory in North Texas was not limited to Dallas County, extending across the D-FW area into Denton, Tarrant and Collin counties. The parts of Dallas County that Paxton won were precincts in the Park Cities, Sunnyvale and a few other precincts with low vote counts.

But otherwise, Dallas County went all in on Talarico. The 37-year-old seminary student focused his campaign on twin pillars of affordability and corruption. Talarico said the system had been rigged against working families and repeatedly reminded voters of Paxton’s 2023 impeachment on corruption and abuse-of-office allegations — charges he was acquitted of by the Texas Senate. The blue wave thoroughly washed through Dallas County on Tuesday night, including in the Texas Senate race. James Talarico supporters hold up signs durng a rally at Stubb’s on Monday, Nov.
