Angela Gonzales-Torres will represent Congressional District 34 after unseating longtime Congressman Jimmy Gomez, NBCLA projects. Angela Gonzales-Torres, a newcomer, defeated Gomez amid his sexual misconduct allegations, NBC News projected Wednesday. Jonathan Gonzalez reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026. Newcomer Angela Gonzales-Torres will represent Congressional District 34 after unseating longtime Congressman Jimmy Gomez, NBC News projected Wednesday. Among the 73% of expected ballots counted as of Wednesday, Gonzales-Torres received more than 58% of the vote, compared with 41% for Gomez. Gonzales-Torres, a community advocate who’s served on the Highland Park Neighborhood Council and Metro’s Public Safety Advisory Committee, championed affordable housing, the abolition of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Medicare for All and a slew of other progressive policies.

She was endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America. "This district is one of the poorest in the state, one of the most underinsured and over-incarcerated. It is home to one of the largest jail systems in the world," Gonzalez-Torres, who, according to her campaign, grew up in Section 8 Housing, said. "And now we finally have Congressional representation that is not beholden to the same corporations and billionaires who profit from poisoning our air and water, deporting and incarcerating our community members, and putting our people into debt for simply going to the doctor.”
