England forward Trout served ban for cannabis

England forward Owen Trout served a one-month ban after testing positive for cannabis. England forward Owen Trout served a one-month ban earlier this year after testing positive for cannabis. The 27-year-old, who is joining NRL side Sharks this off-season from Leigh, returned an adverse analytical finding for carboxy-THC, a metabolite of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) after a Super League match against Wakefield on 20 March. UK Anti-Doping informed Trout of the results and a provisional suspension on 22 May and he admitted to having smoked a cannabis joint and consumed a cannabis gummy in the week leading up to the test.

He was formally charged on 20 July but the one-month ban was adjudged to have been fully served from 22 May to 21 June. Trout, who won his sole England cap to date against Australia last year, admitted the charge and completed an approved Substance of Abuse treatment programme.
