The KPRC2 Weather Team is tracking a system that could become Tropical Storm Edouard overnight, with rainfall and flooding possible across Galveston, Harris, Montgomery and surrounding counties. Houston, TX – Heavy rainfall from Tropical Depression 5 could cause flash flooding across parts of southeast Texas, where rainfall rates may exceed 2 inches per hour in intense downpours. The National Weather Service expanded weather alerts across southeast Texas, issuing a widespread flood watch and maintaining a tropical storm warning for coastal areas as potential Tropical Cyclone Five approaches the region. The system is forecast to strengthen into Tropical Storm Edouard late tonight or early Tuesday morning. The flood watch takes effect tonight and runs through Wednesday morning.

It covers a broad swath of southeast Texas, including Harris, Galveston, Chambers, Montgomery, Liberty, Polk, and San Jacinto counties. Major population centers under the watch include Houston, Pasadena, The Woodlands, Galveston, Conroe, League City, Texas City, and Baytown. Expected rainfall and geographical impact rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are forecast across the watch area east of I-45, with isolated amounts reaching 6 to 9 inches. The highest rainfall totals are expected east of Interstate 45. Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall associated with the developing tropical system are expected to begin as early as late tonight and last into late Tuesday night
