British PM says incident at US-run base ‘almost certainly’ directed by Iran

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham told Parliament on Monday that the Iran’s Revolutionary Guard was “almost certainly” behind the security incident at RAF Fairford A B-1 bomber prepares to take off as police officers man a checkpoint near RAF Fairford in Fairford, England, Sept. 29, 2026. (Alastair Grant/AP) British Prime Minister Andy Burnham told Parliament on Monday that the Iran’s Revolutionary Guard was “almost certainly” behind the security incident at RAF Fairford, a British air base used by U.S. bombers to strike Iran. “I can confirm our assessment that it is highly likely to have been coordinated in Iran, almost certainly directed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard,” Burnham told lawmakers.

“We will not tolerate these threats on our soil.” Seven men have been arrested, but they all have been released on bail. No charges have been filed. Initial arrests were made on Sept. 27 after a 12:45 a.m. call about three suspicious vehicles that appeared to be traveling toward the base, Gloucestershire police said. Armed officers detained five men near the village of Whelford. They were initially arrested on suspicion of explosives offenses. Aerial footage published by multiple news outlets appeared to show a bomb disposal robot inspecting three white vans. About 85 households were evacuated as a precaution, according to police, and a nearby recreation center has been opened
