Congressman Casar meets with man shot by ICE in Austin  Spectrum News

Wilber Rafael Garces Perez was told by a specialist he needs surgery after he was shot in the back by an ICE officer. WASHINGTON — After meeting with the Venezuelan man who was shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer and then detained, Rep. Greg Casar, D-Austin, is urging the federal government to release him to get the care he needs. Hours after Wilber Rafael Garces Perez was shot in the back and wounded by an ICE officer in Austin on Sunday, Perez was taken to the South Texas ICE Processing Center more than 130 miles away in Pearsall. That is where Casar met Perez in person Wednesday afternoon. Casar said while Perez’s spirits are strong, he was in a wheelchair, wearing a sling, had bruising and still felt intense pain.
