Crown Point Elementary evacuated due to smoke in building  Action News Jax

Crown Point Elementary School was evacuated Thursday morning due to smoke in the building. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 10 AM, UPDATE: Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department said crews responded to the school at 7:14 a.m. School officials said the school only contained about 20 students during that hour and other families were notified prior to coming to campus. “Based on the preliminary investigation, there was no fire. A malfunction involving an air handler generated smoke, which spread into four classrooms,” a Duval County Public School news release states. 8:30 AM; UPDATE: Action News Jax has learned that the fire has affected four classrooms at Crown Point Elementary School. The district is checking air quality to determine if students will return.

8 AM: Crown Point Elementary School, 3800 Crown Point Road, Jacksonville, has been evacuated due to an electrical fire Thursday morning. Action News Jax has learned that students and buses have been diverted to Mandarin Middle School. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is on the scene and roads leading to the school have been closed to traffic and buses.
