Firefighters at 4:47 p.m. Friday were sent to New Country Auto Parts, 3013 Stanley Ave. That’s located a block west of the intersection of Madison Avenue and East Troy Avenue on the south side.

Employees reported seeing flames near a 250-gallon fuel tank and found a man injured on the ground nearby. Co-workers moved the man to a safe location before Indianapolis Fire Department and Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services crews arrived. Medics treated the man at the scene before rushing him to Eskenazi Hospital with significant injuries. When fire crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from several cars and nearby shipping containers. Firefighters fought the blaze and brought it under control within 30 minutes. While the fire destroyed a 40-by-50-foot canopy, crews prevented the flames from spreading farther.
