The Texas-based travel center will be off Insterstate 40-Interstate 85 corridor in Mebane. MEBANE, N.C. — Construction on the first North Carolina Buc-ee’s location is underway in Mebane. Buc-ee’s officials and community leaders gathered Wednesday morning to break ground on the project. It will be about 30 minutes from Greensboro, less than an hour from Raleigh and less than two hours from Charlotte. “I think it’ll change Mebane for the good,” said Buc-ee’s CEO Arch Aplin III. The Texas-based travel center will be off the Interstate 40-Interstate 85 corridor in Mebane. “I think it will be a well-received, exceptional site,” said Aplin. “This is our state of the art, our prototype, our biggest store that we build.

I think you'll just be blown away with it.” The 30-acre property will include a 74,000-square-foot facility and will feature 120 fueling positions. It’s expected to bring in more than 200 jobs to Mebane and the surrounding area. Aplin said his company chose this property after being turned down at a site in Orange County. “I'm always, quite honestly, a little surprised when someone doesn't want our product in their area and their community because of the jobs, because of the tax base,” said Aplin. Buc-ee's is expected to bring more traffic to this area. The North Carolina Department of Transportation is working
